| The final results from last weekend’s Young Athletes Matches are finally completed and it proved a great weekend for Sussex teams.
The final matches for this season saw Sussex teams in first and second places in both the Division One S.E and Division One S.W
At Worthing in SW the Chichester and Worthing teams were involved in a nail biting competition with the home team eventually winning the match by just two points with 649 points to Chichester 647 with the Havant team trailed off with 181 points.
This result saw both Sussex teams leap up the League table with Chichester taking the league title with a total of 2224.5 points from Worthing’s 2183 points and leap froged Winchester, 2142 and Guildford 2121 who had held first and second place in the League before this final match.
At Crawley in Division 1 SE again it was the home club who came out on top scoring 551 points to Horsham Blue Star’s 510 with Epsom on 355 while in the second match at Crawley Lewes were beaten by Ashford 630 to 434 points with Hastings taking third with 342 points.
In the same League at Croydon League leaders Brighton & Hove were involved in an even closer battle for honours than that at Worthing.
The Brighton & Hove team left the match believing that they had one the competition by just half of one point but after fie days of checking it was the south London team that were declared winners with 582.5 points to Brighton & Hove’s 582 with Eastbourne, who have struggled all season on 228.5 points.
It did not however change the final League positions and Brighton & Hove City took the title with 2,386 points to Horsham Blue Star’s 2069 and Crawley 2,048 points.
Both Brighton & Hove and Chichester gained promotion to the Premier “East” and “West” Divisions respectively for next season.
