The Sussex Under thirteen girls team produced a fine performance at Kingston on Sunday to take third team spot in the South of England U13 Inter-county match.
The Boys also did well placing eighth and combined the filled fifth place out of the dozen plus competing counties.
Grace Cook, who is primarily a triathlete and makes rare appearances on the track romped away from the field in the 1,500 metres to clock 4:5048s, a time that only one Sussex U15 and U17 performer has bettered this season.
This is only three seconds slower than Charlotte Browning’s ten-year old County Record and we all know what Browning is on the verge of a full International career now.
The 4 x 100 metres relay team of Livvy Connor, Elise Haworth, Jessica Breach and Millie Cable also proved victorious winning in a new Sussex record time of 53.74s, a time set ten years ago.
In the Boys event Kobe Griffiths was the only winner leaping a personal best of 4.97m in the long jump.
Brighton Loose out to Southampton.
Brighton & Hove City’s three-year run as championships in the Itchen Division of the National Junior league came to an end at Basingstoke in a desperately close match at the hands of Southampton.
In the previous match Southampton won the match by just one point, which meant that Southampton lead by one match point as they battled in the final match but Brighton & Hove still had the advantage on total points.
In a neck and neck competition Southampton took the final match with 497 points to Brighton & Hove’s 493 and so took the League title with 31 points (1,887) to Brighton & Hove’s 29 (1,908).
Chichester had a great match at Basingstoke finishing in third place with 264 points.
There were several Sussex winners with Luke Braiden throwing 45.06m for a personal best to take the discus and this effort earnt him the “Man of the Match” award.
Matt Lasis won the hammer throw for Brighton & Hove with 53.93m and also won the “B” shot putt with 10.99m while Matt Hewitt notched up another high hurdles victory in 15.0s and Chichester’s Jamie Moore cleared 3.65m to win the pole vault.
Chichester’s Katie Hardcastle took the long jump with a leap of 5.06m while teammate Kathy Bird stepped down from her usual middle distance effort to win the 200 metres in 26.3s and Sophie Millett cleared 2.00m to win the pole vault.
Brighton & Hove’s Katie Urquhart took the 100 metres in 12.9s. and Megan Cox the high jump with 1.40m while Chantal West took the high hurdles in 16.5 and the “B” 400hurdles and then helped her team to victory in the sprint relay in 51.9s.
